Skipper’s Stars

What an extraordinary bunch of Skipper’s Stars we’ve had the pleasure of teaching this year! Reading, writing. Counting, building. Singing and dancing. Prep really is THE BEST! Skipper’s Stars are different students each day who make their own amazing connections to our current learning intentions during SMILe. The Stars are asked to share their investigation with […]

That’s Not Fair!

Sharing is a big part of life, in our classrooms and at home. Food, pencils, paper, toys and books are all things we share every day. At the moment we are learning about fairness and identifying if something shared is fair or unfair. We are using words like ‘same’, ‘half’ and ‘equal’. This might include sharing collections of objects or sharing […]

Fairy Tale Learning in Reading, Writing and Maths

Once upon a time… there were some beautiful children who lived in a wonderful town called St Kilda! We have been reading fairy tales this week and discovering so many connections between stories. The Gingerbread Man reminds us of the Three Little Pigs because the fox is always hungry and trying to eat the other […]

Non-fiction texts

We are learning about non-fiction texts and loving the discoveries we make from factual books. By using features such as the contents page, page numbers and headings we search for information and use it during our investigations. We are learning to summarise by telling others about the most important parts of what we read. Non-fiction […]

Learning about growing patterns

We have been learning about patterns that grow. We were so excited to discover that the cup towers created during SMILe were actually patterns! During maths, we discussed the patterns we could see and explored other growing patterns, including going up by 2s, 5s and 10s. Growing patterns occur all the time. We listened to some stories […]

Happy 100 Days of School!

The day finally arrived! We finally filled our classroom 100s charts with stickers! The 100-year-olds that arrived yesterday looked absolutely fantastic and they brought with them 100 ‘things’! So far we have 100 rice bubbles, Lego, pasta, dried beans, croutons, beads, balloons, and 100s and 1000s! We counted some of them again, counting by 1s and 10s. There was amazing […]

Shapes are all around us!

Did you know that shapes are all around us?! We’ve discovered many spheres, cubes, cones, pyramids and cylinders all around our classrooms and recorded how many sides, edges and corners they have! During SMILe we have been recording the shapes we find and making some cool creations with blocks and shape nets. We also discovered that we […]

Manabi International Airport

What a start to the second half of the year! Manabi International Airport celebrated a very successful grand opening last week. The travel agent desk has been flat out writing boarding passes and their information brochures have been very popular in the waiting area and other reading nooks around the airport. We have a check in […]

CERES

What fun we had at CERES this week! In our house colour groups, we each participated in three awesome activities that built on our understanding of the world around us and our appreciation for the environment. Using scraps of paper that had been recycled, we created our own paper that is now drying at school! It […]
