Happy 100 Days of School!

The day finally arrived! We finally filled our classroom 100s charts with stickers! The 100-year-olds that arrived yesterday looked absolutely fantastic and they brought with them 100 ‘things’! So far we have 100 rice bubbles, Lego, pasta, dried beans, croutons, beads, balloons, and 100s and 1000s! We counted some of them again, counting by 1s and 10s. There was amazing […]

Shapes are all around us!

Did you know that shapes are all around us?! We’ve discovered many spheres, cubes, cones, pyramids and cylinders all around our classrooms and recorded how many sides, edges and corners they have! During SMILe we have been recording the shapes we find and making some cool creations with blocks and shape nets. We also discovered that we […]

Manabi International Airport

What a start to the second half of the year! Manabi International Airport celebrated a very successful grand opening last week. The travel agent desk has been flat out writing boarding passes and their information brochures have been very popular in the waiting area and other reading nooks around the airport. We have a check in […]

CERES

What fun we had at CERES this week! In our house colour groups, we each participated in three awesome activities that built on our understanding of the world around us and our appreciation for the environment. Using scraps of paper that had been recycled, we created our own paper that is now drying at school! It […]

Happy To Be Me!!!

This afternoon the Preps were SO lucky to have Carp Productions visit the school and perform their amazing show – Happy To Be Me. Performed by Caroline (Nicky DeKourte’s mum) and Phillip, the Preps were enthralled for 45 minutes as we explored the idea that everyone is good at SOMETHING! We learnt that we should […]

Learning about Shape

We’ve been exploring shape with geoboards, problem solving activities and during SMILe. We use the language of ‘sides’ and ‘corners’ to describe shapes and we have been learning to name squares, triangles, rectangles, hexagons, trapeziums, rhombuses. Here we are in action!

Rocket Ship PS10100

Yesterday in SMILe many of us in Prep S chose to focus our investigations on space and the newly named PS10100 rocket ship! We voted to decide on the name and then talked about how big the number 10100 is (very very very big!). With a new name comes the need for new signs and we took […]

What a start to Term 2!

WOW! We loved arriving at school today after a wonderful break to see a lot of exciting changes inside the Manabi building! We started the day discussing the importance of looking after our learning environment before moving into Self Motivated Investigative Learning (SMILe). SMILe time was rich with learning as we explored space stations and […]

Reading at Home

We can’t wait to read with our families at home and share the reading strategies we’ve been learning in Prep! We start by looking at the pictures for clues and looking at the words from left to right. When reading words we try to sound out the first letter, and point to each word as we […]

Playing with Patterns!

This week in Prep we have been talking about what makes a pattern. We discovered patterns go over and over again and some of us are calling this ‘repeating’! Playing with patterns has involved copying, continuing and creating patterns with colourful teddies, unifix cubes, shapes, sounds and movement. We even made patterns out of people! […]
