What fun we had at CERES this week! In our house colour groups, we each participated in three awesome activities that built on our understanding of the world around us and our appreciation for the environment.
Using scraps of paper that had been recycled, we created our own paper that is now drying at school! It was a wonderful example of how things can be reused and repurposed instead of being thrown away.
Holding worms in our hands allowed us to see these little guys up close and learn about their important role in our gardens. Then we had the opportunity to dig for other mini-beasts such as centipedes, millipedes, ants and beetle larvae.
The Merri Creek walk was merry indeed as we only spotted a few pieces of rubbish (that we picked up!). We sadly realised not all creeks are as clean as this one though.
Another hit activity was the Recycling Relay, where we raced to correctly sort out items that belonged in either the recycling or rubbish bin. Ask us about the actions for the 3 R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) which we learnt here.
Luckily the rain held off until we were ready to go back to school. For some of us, the bus was a highlight too!
The day at CERES was exceptionally exciting as our first ever school excursion! Thank you to the wonderful parents who volunteered their time to be with us!
