On Thursday 19 July, Yr. 6D were invited to ‘The Japanese School of Melbourne’ in Caulfield, for our third cultural exchange day together. We were warmly welcomed into their school with a lovely ‘Opening Ceremony’ followed by their students singing traditional Japanese songs. Both schools then exchanged welcome speeches in both Japanese and English.
We were then invited on an extensive tour of their school, followed by 3 different Japanese Kanji Calligraphy (shodo) lessons. The Japanese students did an amazing job teaching the names, stroke order, and meaning of each Kanji character.
After lunch, students were then invited into 3 different Japanese lessons, learning different vocabulary and writing in Hiragana.
We ended the day with goodbye and thank you speeches in both Japanese and English. Everyone had a magnificent time and we are all looking forward to ‘The Japanese School of Melbourne’ visiting us at St Kilda Primary in November this year.
