Hellooooooo, 2018!!!

Welcome to a wonderful year of Performing Arts!

The focus of Term 1 is MUSIC! Wonderful MUSIC!

All year levels will be revisiting the musical elements including beat & rhythm, pitch & melody, tempo & dynamics, tone and texture.

We will be doing this by singing; playing musical instruments; using our bodies; and even some dancing!

The Junior School will cover four units of work across the year that will culminate in a performance piece by each class in Term 4 to demonstrate the breadth of their their learning. It will also hopefully demonstrate them having an AMAZING time!

I plan to invite Parents, Friends and Grandparents if the time timetable permits so that it’s a lovely end of year celebration for the Junior School students!

The Senior School have a HUGE year ahead of them including the 3-6 School Concert across three days in Term 4: Tuesday 30th October, Wednesday 31st October and Thursday 1st November. We have decided on Alice – The Musical (Alice in Wonderland). I CANNOT wait to get started!

For Term 1, however, they also focus on Music and the Elements of Music by building on their introduction to the Ukulele in 2017. We will be playing group songs, solos, and they too will finish the unit with a class performance of a song you are all bound to get stuck in your heads.

I am extremely excited to have the privilege of teaching Performing Arts for a second year and I hope to pack in all of last year’s excitement plus a whole lot more!

We have the Dandenong Ranges Ukulele Festival scheduled for Saturday May 19. 6 Students and their families came along last year and it was a BRILLIANT day!

We will again be taking part in the Combined Schools Winter Festival with 6 other bayside primary schools. Last year it was held at the South Melbourne Town Hall and we formed a 16 piece band that played two EPIC songs. It was an incredible experience for the participants.

I also plan to have LOTS more talent showcases, similar to the Fete talent show and the end of year concert, where students feel confident and safe to share any kind of performance with an audience – Song, Dance, Comedy, Spoken Word, Recipe Reading, Philosophy… Who knows where it will end!!

Wow I’m excited just rereading this blog! As always, please come and see me anytime with any questions or ideas.

Mr Rennie (Mick)
